As is expected, we photographed a ton for the recent Brides of North Texas feature "Ladies & Gents" and much of it went unused. However, there were so many great ideas, fabulous outfits, and beautiful locations, that we just couldn't keep it under wraps. PUBLISHED: Brides of North Texas fashion spread

We were recently approached by the publishers of The Brides of North Texas magazine about collaborating on a never-been-done fashion concept for their most recent issue. Of course, we said "Heck yeah!" Their idea was to bring together complimenting bridesmaids and groomsmen attire in one shoot. Typically, focus is on one or the other but these ladies really wanted to show how you can use fashion to bring everyone together! The feel was to be really documentary and fun, not just smiling and modeling for the camera... just my style!

Q: Tell us about yourself... Did you always want this to be your career or did you stumble upon your talent by chance?

A: Are you kidding?  My poor mother would come home from work at the hospital all day and I would have rearranged all the furniture.  But there was dinner that I found in Southern Living, on the table, so it kinda balanced out.

Q: How did you get started in doing this for weddings?

A: I started on the other side of the stove, in the kitchen.  Graduated from the Culinary Hyde Park, NY in 1990 and was Chef de Sauté at the Fairmont Pyramid Room (the older, amazing one – not the thing that’s there now) and then moved upstairs and did a lot of pastry work.  Spent two years as Sommelier for the Delta Queen Steamboat Co.  Came home and got involved with a shady group of people called “Off-Premise Caterers” and felt way at home.  It’s a good fit for how ADD I am – creative, fast paced, always a different location, changing menus, and once the client loves you, they want you to design everything else too.  So, I’ve spent the last fifteen plus years designing party experiences for groups from 2 to 1500.

Q: What is the best part of your job?

A: Doing what I love and getting paid to do it for really great people.

Q: What’s your best wedding story or your most memorable event?

A: I have really great memories of flying down 29^th Street in Austin, behind the box van, in my black Camaro convertible, both packed to over-flowing with waiters, wedding cakes, canapés and columns.  Not that that was the pinnacle of anything, but it was just fun and kinda Priscilla Queen of the Party.

Q: What’s been your biggest accomplishment to date… personal or professional?

A: Living past 30?  I dunno – achieving some sort of balance between work and life.  I have a really sweet family and am glad that I know that and that we all make time to hang out together.

If you want my “pageant answer” – the year that I swept the NACE national awards at a glamorous supper party in San Diego!

Q: What words do you live by?

A: “If it’s worth doin, it’s worth over-doin.” Paraphrase from Mick Jagger

Q: Tell us about yourself… Did you always want this to be your career or did you stumble upon your talent by chance?

A: Major stumbling! I dodged it to the best of my ability! This journey began with a few friends seeing my talent and believing in me. They saw more potential than I saw in myself. I started doing a few invitations for friends of friends and I got so busy that I had to make a decision. Keep working for corporate or take a leap of faith and do what I truly love? I took a huge leap and we just celebrated our 5th birthday and launched a new website where you can order and design your own invitation on-line! I am very thankful for my friends that knew me better than I knew myself!

Q: How did you get started in doing this for weddings?

A: From the beginning, I have ONLY been interested in designing wedding invitations. I was in over 18 weddings right out of college and there was a major need for color and personality in their invitations. Once again my friends were the catalyst! I love to work with brides to pull out their creativity and personality to design something completely unique for them making their wedding invitation, simply personal. 

Q: What is the best part of your job?

A: Hands down, seeing the bride’s facial expression when they open the box. It is the most fulfilling and satisfying part of my job!

Q: What’s your best wedding story or your most memorable event?

A: The best wedding story for me is the wedding I didn’t have. It would take a novel to explain but instead of having the “wedding of my dreams” back in 2004 I chose to have the “marriage of my dreams” and called it off. I just got both dreams and married the right man for me on February 19, 2010. It was worth the heartache and the wait! If you are reading this and questioning if your fiancé is right for you or having doubts please talk to someone. You have not walked down the aisle yet and you have not said I do, it is NOT too late. Calling off a wedding is a lot less painful and less expensive than getting a divorce. Please contact me if you need someone to talk to!

Q: What’s been your biggest accomplishment to date… personal or professional?

A: I have planned corporate meetings and events all over the world. I have been to every major city in the U.S and planned events in Prague, London, Paris and Barcelona. The hardest and most rewarding event was a 17 day program in Santa Barbara, California for 2100 people. Having to manage 20 staff, a demanding client and inform 2100 people of where they needed to be and when took incredible focus, determination and energy. The program was incredibly successful and I am very proud of it! I have also taken groups to the Super Bowl which is also a cool professional moment I will never forget. I now co-own Event Studio, an event and wedding planning company in Dallas, Texas along with keeping up with Simply Personal!

Q: What words do you live by?

A: You are only as good as your last project.

Q: Tell us about yourself… Did you always want this to be your career or did you stumble upon your talent by chance?
A: I have always wanted to be a wedding planner. It has been something I have been working toward my whole life (seriously since I was about 4 years old). The whole story is on my website.

Q: How did you get started in doing this for weddings?
A: The short answer is that I specifically started coordinating by apprenticing for a church wedding coordinator. I did this while I developed my business plan and advertising strategies.

Q: What is the best part of your job?
A: The creativity I am forced to use. Well, that and being the hero. I loved to solve a problem, and put someone at ease.

Q: What’s your best wedding story or your most memorable event?
A: It has to be building a stage for a bride who wanted to be a true “Princess” on her wedding day. It was one of the longest ceremonies we had, but people who were not even part of the wedding party were entirely captivated by the group.

Q: What’s been your biggest accomplishment to date… personal or professional?
A: My biggest accomplishment is getting to be a full-time wedding planner AND a mom of 4 kids.

Q: What words do you live by?
A:“Everything is possible for him who believes.”

Crazy summer!

This June and July have, by far, been the busiest season for us on record. Not only for weddings, but an enormous amounts of Engagement, bridal, and portrait sessions as well. I will now do my best to showcase you all b/c while it's been the craziest season, it's also been one of our most blessed. The most beautiful weddings, fabulous couples, and sweetest families! Thanks to you all for making my busy season super-fun! :)

We are excited that we are in the final stages of creating our first email newsletter "In the Moment"! It will be a monthly thing, and we hope everyone finds it informative.

The cool thing is that we will be inserting little special offers and such that will only be available to newsletter subscribers. So you will want to be sure you are getting it!
